Artistic figure work
I’m looking for figure models to collaborate with for ongoing nude series.
I’ve self-published two books, one of studio portraits and nudes, and the second of dance and motion images. My next book with be themed towards more simple and classic style nudes and figure images.
Currently, my main focus is one very “classic” style figures images — simple and minimalistic, just about body, shape, form, light, and shadow. I am looking for models who have an interest in creating simple and beautiful images of their form. Past experience modeling is not required, and I’m happy to work with all body types, shapes, and any age 18 or older.
Images can be “anonymous”, or only used for print projects (books, gallery show, etc.) for models who are concerned about their online privacy.
I always try to balance a professional attitude with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Safety and comfort are my primary concerns.
And mostly, I am looking to work with people who share a love of art photography. If you would like to be part of any of my projects, please get in touch with me and we can discuss more.
Here’s some information to hopefully answer the more frequent questions:
Current projects
There are a number of themes that tend to show up in my work: Focus and its ability to direct attention, near-abstraction, figure/form, and implied/ambiguous/multiple meanings are common elements than tend to show up often in my various projects.
– “Classic” figure: Simple and minimalistic. The figure, form, shape, light, shadow. That’s it. Beauty in its most basic form.
– Silhouette/shadow: Figure images with a heavy emphasis on shadows and darkness to obscure the form.
– Body writing: A series of figure images involving writing on the body. The writing covers subjects ranging from descriptions of scars to stories to poetry.
– Tattoos/piercings: Body modifications are interesting to document.
– Body image: Images that convey ideas about the perception of self and how others see.
– Pin-up: Retro and updated pin-up style.
– Motion: Dance especially.
– Words: I love words and language and powerful concepts a few glyphs can imbue. Many of my the already mentioned projects end up producing images that become tied to certain text, and some images (like ones done to illustrate models’ poetry/prose) even more so.
TFP/TFCD
I prefer to work in trade for prints or digital images, but pay is negotiable. Primarily looking for female models, though I may including images of male models in the future. I’m quite happy to shoot other images you might be interested in (portrait, glamour, fashion, headshot, etc.) as part of our collaboration.
TFP/TFCD means time-for-prints, or time-for-CD — I like to work in trade with a model if possible. I currently have a limited number of TFP/TFCD times available, but I will do my best to make myself available to models interested in my work. I usually try to do a few TFP/TFCD session a month.
Generally, I offer free copies digital images for web-portfolio use, and the option to purchase prints at a discount. I usually do not part with high-res files, original or edited, but exceptions can be made for specific uses, or they can be purchased.
Digital images will be provided in exchange for your time – I make a preview gallery available, and then the model can select a dozen images they like best, and I process those images first so they can be available as quickly as possible. Models are free to use those images for their own websites, portfolios, etc. Prints can be purchased at a discounted price (models pay just half my regular print price). A CD of the digital images can be provided upon request.
What am I looking for?
– For current projects, I am interested in models comfortable with artistic nudity. I am not interested in shooting porn or explicit images.
– You must be 18 years old (with ID to prove it), and willing to sign a model release.
– While I have mostly worked with female models, I am planning to work with some male models for my next book.
– A recent photo should be sent (or link provided to one) with your initial modelling inquiry.
– I shoot images mainly for my own portfolio, but it’s possible the images may be used for other purposes or appear in other media (books, gallery shows, submissions to photography magazines, etc.).
– Models are quite welcome bring a friend/escort/chaperon to the shoot.
– I have a relaxed, fun, but professional attitude, and look for models with the same.
